Makeup Basics: Eyebrow, Eyelashes, and Eyeshadow Tips

Eyeshadow looks
Eyebrow look

Happy Friday! 🙂 Today, I wanted to share with you another Makeup Basics post but this time I’m talking all about eye makeup! Because I have small hooded eyes I like to keep it neutral and low key in my eye area. So, these eyebrow, eyelashes, and eyeshadow tips should be super easy for any makeup beginner!

Before I get into some tips, I wanted to share a couple of eye makeup tools I’ve been using for a while now. Morphe and Elf brushes are my absolute favorite. They’re affordable and I’ve never had an issue with them shedding or losing shape/form.

Eyebrows

When I leave the house if there’s not a drop of makeup on my face my eyebrows are still filled in.

Pre-COVID I would get my eyebrows waxed so that they’re easier to fill in and go. But these days, I attempt to clean them up myself using an Eyebrow Razor, hair grooming scissors, and my ELF eyebrow duo brush.

To fill my eyebrows in on a daily I love using Benefit Goof Proof pencil and NYX eyebrow gel.

In the past, I’ve used pomade and powder to fill in my brows but I prefer to use a pencil for natural daily brows.

Eyelashes

When it comes to my eyelashes I like to keep it simple. I’ve honestly been using the same mascara for the past couple of years. I also like to rock my natural lashes over attempting to put in false lashes. So, to give my natural lashes a fuller look I always layer my mascara and use a primer.

I use L’Oréal eyelash primer, L’Oreal Telescopic mascara, and L’Oreal Lash Paradise mascara (in that order) every time I wear mascara.

Recently, I have been thinking about switching it up for a change. I am thinking about trying out lash extensions sometime in the next year, so if you have any good tips when it comes to upkeep and style share your secrets in the comments below!!

Eyeshadow

*Moment of honesty* If I had to choose my least favorite makeup item, it would be probably eyeshadow. As much as I love makeup, most days I prefer the process to be quick and eyeshadow is too intricate to be “quickly” done.

So I’ve picked up a couple of super easy tips to make the eyeshadow process super simple!

The first tip would be to find a neutral palette you love! As a WOC, I recommend Juvia’s Place and Morphe palettes. Pigment payoff isn’t always the best on our complexion, but both of these companies sell quality pigmented eyeshadows that I love and use regularly.

Another tip is to use bronzer in the crease of your eye to give your eyes more dimension. This is probably one of my favorite lazy eyeshadow hacks because it’s the easiest. I pretty much use this trick on a daily!

Lastly, instead of eyeliner, I smoke my lash line with a dark eyeshadow. I prefer eyeshadow over traditional eyeliner purely from a convenience standpoint. If I’m being honest I look at it as 1 less product I have to buy! LOL
